The Latin Recording Academy announced the nominees for the 27th Latin Grammy Awards on Sept. 16, across 60 categories. The telecast is Thursday, Nov. 12, live on Univision from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Producer and songwriter Edgar Barrera leads the field with 10 nominations. Karol G, Rosalía, Jorge Drexler and CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso have seven each.
The four urban-field lists
- Best Reggaeton Performance: Rauw Alejandro, Wisin & Ñengo Flow, "Contrabando"; Bad Gyal featuring Chencho Corleone, "Choque"; Karol G featuring Feid, "Verano Rosa"; Ozuna, "Una Aventura"; Sofía Reyes & Luísa Sonza, "Uñas Afiladas".
- Best Urban Performance: Bizarrap & Daddy Yankee, "Daddy Yankee: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 0/66"; Ryan Castro, Kapo & Gangsta, "La Villa"; Feid, "Se Lo Juro Mor"; Karol G featuring Eddy Lover, "Dile Luna"; Milo J featuring Trueno, "Gil".
- Best Urban Music Album: Bad Gyal, Más Cara; J Balvin & Ryan Castro, Omerta; Beéle, Borondo (5020 Rcrds Sessions); Karol G, Tropicoqueta; Young Miko, Do Not Disturb: Late Checkout.
- Best Urban Song: Rauw Alejandro, "Buenos Términos"; Bizarrap & Daddy Yankee, "Daddy Yankee: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 0/66"; Omar Courtz, "Por Si Mañana No Estoy"; DJ GU and five MCs, "Reliquia Do 2T"; Beéle, "Yo y Tú".
A handful of names do the work
Counting across those four lists, which is our tally and not the Academy's, Karol G appears in three: "Verano Rosa" with Feid, "Dile Luna" with Eddy Lover, and Tropicoqueta. Forbes Colombia counts seven nominations in all for her, and Remezcla reports that Tropicoqueta is also up for Album of the Year.
Five more names or recordings appear twice. Feid has "Se Lo Juro Mor" and the "Verano Rosa" duet. Rauw Alejandro has "Contrabando" and "Buenos Términos." Ryan Castro has "La Villa" and, with J Balvin, Omerta. Beéle has Borondo and "Yo y Tú." And the Bizarrap session with Daddy Yankee is on both the Urban Performance and Urban Song lists.
Forbes Colombia's Colombian nominee list confirms those entries for Karol G, Feid, Ryan Castro, Kapo, J Balvin and Beéle. It also shows Feid with a third nomination, in the rap and hip-hop song category for "Poder" with Lil Supa.
Who is not on the lists
Bad Bunny does not appear in any of the four lists, though he has seven finalist mentions at the Billboard Latin Music Awards on Oct. 22. Daddy Yankee is on the lists only for the Bizarrap session, and the Academy honors him separately as Person of the Year at its Nov. 11 gala. The Urban Song list also includes a track credited to DJ GU and five MCs, "Reliquia Do 2T," a name that has not come up in the other lists. Those comparisons are ours.
For anyone planning around the dates: the nominees came out on Sept. 16, the Academy's Daddy Yankee tribute is on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and the Latin Grammy telecast is the following night.
